Single Person Discount Review

The Council are continuously reviewing Council Tax single person discounts, to ensure residents only receive the reduction in their council tax where there is appropriate entitlement.

Using intelligent data matching, we are comparing records to check the validity of the discounts awarded.

Residents who are receiving a discount but are no longer entitled will have the discount removed and backdated as far as the evidence supports. Where it is appropriate the Council will impose a financial penalty or prosecute individuals for failing to declare that they are no longer entitled to the discount.
