Check our council tax discounts and reductions
If you are on low income or receive certain benefits you may be able to get council tax reduction to reduce your bill. Check if you can claim council tax reduction.

Check your benefit entitlements
You could be missing out on benefits that you are not currently claiming. Use Money Helpers benefits calculator to check you’re getting all the money you’re entitled.
Change how you pay
As standard, your council tax payments are spread over 10 months of the year. You can reduce your monthly bill by asking us to spread your payments over 12 months instead of 10.
If you pay by direct debit you can choose to pay on the 1st, 15th or 25th of each month. Paying on a date soon after you get paid can help you manage your money better.

Advice if you are in debt
If you have council tax debt and have an existing re-payment plan with us, but are struggling to make your payments you should call us to discuss your plan.
Call us on 01443 425002 and we can look at re-negotiating the plan so that it works for both of us.
The debt respite scheme can give you extra time to manage your debt. The scheme will:
- stop organisations recovering money from you
- freeze the interest on your debt
- stop any additional charges
- lasts for 60 days
