If you are starting or continuing sixth form education, you may be entitled to free home-to-school transport. This page explains who is eligible, when you need to apply, and what information you will need to provide. Please read the guidance carefully before making an application.
Returning to your current school after Year 11
If you already receive free school transport and are staying at the same school for sixth form (Year 12), you do not need to do anything.
Your current transport arrangements will continue when you return to school in September. Please keep your bus pass
Attending your catchment sixth form
If you are moving to a different school because your current school does not offer post-16 education, your new sixth form catchment school will tell the Integrated Transport Unit (ITU) that you have enrolled.
New 6th form Learners at the following schools will also need to complete an on-line application.
- Aberdare Community School
- Bryncelynnog Comprehensive School
- Treorchy Comprehensive School
If you are attending Tonyrefail Community School, you do not need to complete an application form, as the information normally collected reqiured through the application process has already been provided by the school.
If you are attending a different sixth form that is not listed above, email hometoschooltransport@rctcbc.gov.uk with:
- the learner’s full name
- date of birth
- home address
- school name
- course details
We will assess your transport entitlement in line with the policy.
Returning to Year 13 and currently receiving free transport via public transport
If you are returning to Year 13 and currently receive free transport by public transport, you must complete a new application form to confirm that you are returning to school.
However, if you currently receive free transport and travel using a contracted transport service (school bus pass), you do not need to complete an application form, as your transport arrangements will continue automatically.
St David’s Catholic Sixth Form College
Learners who live in Rhondda Cynon Taf, attended Cardinal Newman Catholic School and are progressing to St David’s Catholic Sixth Form College will be entitled to free transport.
You must:
- enrol at St David’s Catholic Sixth Form College
- complete the sixth form transport application form
Learners attending a faith-based sixth form must have a continuous history of attending a voluntary aided (faith) school of the same religious denomination for transport to be considered.
Please note that there is no statutory requirement for local authorities to provide transport to voluntary aided (faith) schools.
Please note:
- Applications are usually assessed within 21 days.
- Updates will only be sent to the email address provided on the application.
- Check your spam or junk folder if you do not receive a response.
- Applications for the next academic year will be processed before August.
Note - Do not submit another application if you have already applied online, unless your address or course has changed.
