Preferred Strategy

Once adopted, the Revised Local Development Plan (LDP) 2022-2037 will replace the existing, adopted Local Development Plan 2006-2021, becoming the basis for all land use planning decisions within Rhondda Cynon Taf.

What is the Preferred Strategy?

As part of the Pre-Deposit (Preferred Strategy) preparation stage of the Revised LDP, the Council has been busy reviewing the evidence base, engaging with stakeholders on the Issues, Objectives, Vision and Aims, and considering strategic options.  Following this, the Preferred Strategy has now been prepared. 

At this strategic level, the Preferred Strategy will seek to address the needs of RCT by proposing levels of housing and employment growth and where this should be spatially distributed across the County Borough, including the identification of key sites.  The Preferred Strategy sets out a small number of strategic level planning policies to be expanded upon in subsequent stages of RLDP preparation.

Preferred Strategy Consultation

This Preferred Strategy was placed out to consultation in accordance with its statutory requirements between February the 21^st 2024 and April the 17^th 2024. This consultation is now closed.

These requirements are set out in the Statement of Pre-deposit Matters.

Alongside the Preferred Strategy document, the Council also consulted on the Candidate Site Register.  The Candidate Site Register contains all the valid sites that the Council has received for consideration for inclusion in the RLDP.  The register sets out the sites including the proposals and also contains the results of the Stage 1 assessments. 

Other documents published include the Integrated Sustainability Appraisal Report, Habitats Regulations Assessment Screening Report and a suite of Background Evidence Base Papers.
