Food waste collections

Food waste is collected weekly from your kerbside.

How it works

You need to use one of our food waste bins to receive our food waste collections. If you do not have one, request a food waste bin.

Recycling your food waste keeps pests out of your black bags, helps manage your black bag allowance and reduces landfill gasses that are bad for our environment.

Within 2 weeks of requesting a food waste bin you will receive:

  • a small bin for your kitchen
  • a roll of food waste bags to line your small bin
  • a large lockable bin for outside

We collect your food waste every week from your collection point.

To put your food waste out for collection:

  • Request a food bin
  • Check your food waste collection day
  • Put only food waste in your food bags
  • Use only food waste bags provided by us
  • Do not overfill your bags
  • When your kitchen food waste bin is full, remove the bag and tie the top tightly
  • Place the bag in your outside food waste bin
  • Lock the top of the bin to prevent animals getting inside
  • Place your large food waste bin at your usual collection point by 7am

Request a food waste bin

Request a food waste bin to start using weekly collections or order a new or replacement bin if needed.

Picking up more bags

Pick up food waste bags from a number of local locations.

Do not store too many rolls of bags at home. They are purposely made from a biodegradable material that will weaken over time and may become fragile by the time you use them

Reporting a missed collection

Our crews may be delayed and may not collect your bags until later in the day. If your bags have not been collected after 24 hours, you can report your missed collection.
