Parents and carers of children with Additional Learning Needs (ALN) in Rhondda Cynon Taf, who live within the catchment area and are eligible for a place in the new 3-19 ALN school in Clydach Vale, can now contact us to find out more. The new school is currently under construction and will open for the first time for the 2026/27 academic year.
The brand new, first-class development will become the Council’s fifth ALN school when it opens on the former Pavilions site. It will have capacity for 176 pupils in a modern new building that has specialist facilities to meet all needs.
Find out more about the school, and follow key milestones on its construction, via this dedicated webpage.
The new ALN school will have the combined catchment areas of Porth Community School, Tonyrefail Community, Ysgol Nant Gwyn (minus Pontrhondda Primary), Coedylan Primary School and Trehopcyn Primary School. Upon opening, pupils already attending other 3-19 ALN schools and who reside within the catchment area of the new school, will be given the option to relocate. This will not be mandatory and will be down to parental/carer choice.
If you have a child who lives in the catchment for the new ALN school, you can now check their eligibility for a place in the new 3-19 ALN school. Placement in an ALN school requires approval through the local authority Additional Learning Needs Panel.
If you would like your child to be considered for placement, or have a general query about eligibility, please contact ALNAS at alnas@rctcbc.gov.uk.
