A growing number of people are discovering the benefits of allotment gardening to grow your own food, or for the healthy exercise.

An allotment garden is a plot of land made available for individual, non-commercial gardening and growing food plants. They vary in size, shape and condition. An allotment plot is a commitment of time and energy which is a great form of exercise, in all weathers and often bring the benefit of achievement, healthy eating and socialising.

Allotments are very popular but waiting lists vary from site to site.  Occasionally some sites may have vacant plots or short waiting lists but the situation varies throughout the growing season each year.

You must be a Rhondda Cynon Taff resident to apply for a plot and you can register for a maximum of 3 different allotment sites.  You have to be on the waiting list to be offered a plot.

PLEASE NOTE:  Allotments are not solely owned by Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, there are also Local Town Council sites, Community Council sites and some are also privately owned. You should seek advice from the appropriate landowners / managers of the site you are interested in.

How to apply for a plot:

Offer of a plot

When there are vacant plots, the Site Representative will get in touch and invite you to visit the site. Allotments are offered on an as seen arrangement.

If you decide to take on a plot you may need to sign a tenancy agreement form.  The Site Representative will provide you with a site gate key and we will send you a bill for the plot. You will have agreed to abide by the Allotments Act 1950 and if applicable, any Allotment Society Constitution and or guidelines.

The allotment year starts on 1st April and rent is payable for the full year up to March 31st the following year. A new plotholder will pay £20 for a full plot and £10 for a half plot.

If you decide not to take on a plot, or if the Site Representative is unable to contact you, your details will be removed from the waiting list.
