Who we are what we do
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is working in partnership with Pontypridd Town Council and the Town & Culture Partnership to bid for Pontypridd to be the UK Town of Culture 2028, a Department of Culture, Media and Sport (DCMS) competition.
As part of this project, our digital platform will create a digital collection of photographs, videos, stories and memories to celebrate the people, places and culture of Pontypridd. Members of the public are invited to contribute content that reflects their experiences, local history and community life.
All content submitted will be reviewed before it is published and if approved, will be displayed on our publicly accessible website and used to support the Pontypridd28 UK Town of Culture 2028 bid.
Whose personal data we process
We may process personal data relating to the following individuals as part of the Pontypridd28 UK Town of Culture 2028 project.
- Individuals who submit photographs, videos, stories or any other content as part of the project.
- Individuals who are identifiable within photographs, videos, stories or any other content submitted as part of the project
- Individuals who contact us with any enquiries, comments or objections relating to any of the submnitted content.
The categories of personal data we process
We may process the following categories of personal data as part of the Town of Culture 2028 project.
- Photographs and Images
- Video recordings
- Written stories, memories and other content voluntarily provided by contributors.
- Name, email address, telephone number if members of the public contact us in relation to any of the published content.
- Any other information voluntarily included within submissions.
- Whilst the project does not intentionally collect special category data, such information may be incidentally captured within any submitted content.
Why we process the personal data
We process the personal data to support the Pontypridd28 UK Town and Culture 2028 bid. This may include but is not limited to the following activities
- Create and maintain a digital collection celebrating the culture, heritage, communities and history of Pontypridd
- Support Pontypridds bid for the UK Town of Culture 2028, a DCMS competition
- Enable individuals to contribute content in support of the project.
- Review and authorise content before publication.
- Publish approved content on the project website and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council social media platforms..
- Respond to enquiries, objections, comments etc relating to any published content.
Our lawful basis for processing the personal data
Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), our lawful basis for processing the personal data is
- Public Task - Article 6 (e) – processing is necessary for the performance of a task carried out in the public interest or in the exercise of official authority vested in the controller.

All photographs, videos, stories and other content approved for publication on the Pontypridd 2028 UK Town of Culture website will be made publicly available and accessible to anyone visiting the website. Only a link to the website will be shared with partner organisations as part of the bid.
Data Processors
A data processor is a company or organisation that processes personal data on our behalf. Our data processors act only upon our instruction. They cannot do anything with the personal data unless we instruct them to do so. They will not share the personal data with any organisation apart from us or use it for their own purposes. They will hold it securely and retain it for the period we instruct.
