Maesyffynnon Extra Care, Aberaman

This scheme in the Cynon Valley was delivered on the former Maesyffynnon Residential Care Home site in 2020. It created a total of 40 state-of-the-art extra care apartments for residents, along with several amenities – and remains a popular hub in the community.

MaesyffynnonThe development at Club Street was delivered in partnership with Linc Cymru, becoming the County Borough’s second extra care facility at the time (after Ty Heulog in Talbot Green). It was built on the site of a former residential care home, ensuring the location was retained for a care accommodation use.

Like all extra care schemes, residents are offered 24/7 on-site support for their assessed needs, enabling them to live independently for as long as possible.

The three-storey building includes a dining room, café, hair salon, therapy room, lounge, laundry room and activity room. There is also a car park and a garden area – to be maintained alongside Blaengwawr Primary School.

The development was built using modern methods of construction, with the new building made up of around 100 pre-constructed modules that were built off-site and then delivered to Aberaman for the assembly of the new building.

The new extra care facility opened at the start of the pandemic, and was initially used as part of the Council’s emergency response.
