This dedicated extra care housing scheme will be delivered in 2026, after the main construction phase resumed in 2024. It will deliver 60 extra care beds on the site of the former Dan-y-Mynydd Residential Care Home in partnership with Linc Cymru, along with many other modern facilities including a day centre provision.
The new four-storey building is being built off Bronwydd Avenue, and the wider development will also include a dining area, hair salon, activity room, day care centre and offices, plus an external car park for visitors to the accommodation.
This new accommodation in Porth will become the fourth extra care housing scheme in Rhondda Cynon Taf when it is delivered (after the existing Ty Heulog in Talbot Green, Maesyffynnon in Aberaman, and Cwrt yr Orsaf in Pontypridd). Residents will be offered 24/7 on-site support for their assessed needs, enabling them to live independently for as long as possible.
Site update for the ongoing Extra Care development in Porth (April 2025)
Intelle Construction are delivering the main construction phase on behalf of the Council and Linc Cymru. Intelle resumed site activity in 2024 following a pause, after the project’s original contractor entered administration.
The old care home buildings were demolished and planning permission for the extra care development was granted in 2021.
The Council will continue to provide regular updates at key milestones in the months ahead, as the project progresses towards completion in 2026. The images on this page were taken during a site visit in April 2025.
