The Welsh Medium primary school in Ferndale will receive a brand new building on a new site, in a multi-million pound investment for the school and the community.
The school currently has Victorian buildings with a large backlog of maintenance, where there is little opportunity to improve outdoor provision due to the topography of the current site. Therefore, a 21st Century facility, including a Cylch Meithrin, is being built at the former ‘Chubb’ Factory site at Maerdy Industrial Estate. It will deliver improved facilities for staff, pupils and the community.
The development will expand the local Welsh Medium primary offer and include modern, flexible and accessible facilities with community use. The new Cylch Meithrin will also offer increased availability of pre-school sessions for 2-3 year-olds. Enhanced outdoor spaces will support the delivery of all curriculum activities, while a staff car park and bus and parent drop-off point will also be provided on site. The new building will also be Net Zero Carbon in operation.
Council contractors Wynne Construction is progressing well with the build – both internally and externally, and it is anticipated that the school will be ready for occupation in the autumn term, 2024.
