New Community Coordinators

The Community Development Team welcome two new Community Coordinators who will be based in Rhondda and Cynon areas of RCTCBC.  Their role will be to coordinate the response to both resident needs and Neighbourhood Networks, acting as a link between communities and a range of other public and third sector services, fostering and building strong positive partnership relationships.

Helen RoderickHi, I’m Helen and I’m the new Community Coordinator for the South Rhondda area.  I have spent the last 6 years working for RCTCBC Work + Skills providing employment mentoring support throughout RCT to residents.

Prior to this, my background was Insurance claim based.  I am really looking forward to spending more time in the community helping groups to maximise their potential and support residents as widely as possible.  I have lived in RCT all my life and have an understanding of the struggles some face, but the Communities of RCT are resilient and will always hold a special place in my heart.  A little-known fact about me – I was a British champion ballroom dancer in my younger days.

Hywel JonesHi everyone, My name is Hywel, and I recently took on the role of a Community Coordinator for the South Cynon area. Prior to this I worked for several years for RCTCBC Library Services.

This role was wide and varied, but I often found myself helping community groups and residents seeking support in our communities.  This support varied with supporting them with their day-to-day activities or advising residents where they could find the help they needed. Plus, it was also a great way to read my favourite genres and authors!

I’m looking forward to getting stuck into my new role. It seems like a great opportunity to get to know and provide help and support to our local communities. RCTCBC may have some of the most economically deprived parts of Wales, but I know from my last job just how strong our communities can be. I’m looking forward to doing what I can to aid our communities in being as resilient as I know they can be. Bringing together groups to work more closely together.
