Safe Routes in Communities proposals for Cilfynydd – have your say

Cilfynydd 1

The Council is consulting residents about a proposed scheme to improve road safety throughout Cilfynydd – and those interested in sharing their views are invited to do so before the process closes on January 15.

The proposed Safe Routes in Communities scheme for Cilfynydd could include a number of improvements – including the upgrade and relocation of the pedestrian crossing at Cilfynydd Road, alterations to footways to improve walking provision, and a 20mph speed limit introduced throughout the village.

Local residents received a letter on December 21 to inform them about the proposals, share details about the consultation and explain how to take part. Notices have also been placed within the local community. Full details about the proposals and consultation are available at www.rctcbc.gov.uk/traffic.

Those interested in sharing their views with the Council must do so by Friday, January 15. Residents can take part via email or post. All feedback received will help the Council in its decision-making process in relation to this scheme.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways and Transportation, said: “The Council is proposing a future scheme to deliver important road safety improvements and increased walking provision in Cilfynydd. Residents received letters informing them about the proposals before Christmas, and they are urged to share their views now for consideration by Officers.

“A number of Safe Routes in Communities schemes have already been delivered by the Council to create safer and improved walking provision for local residents. They include work in Cwmaman, Tonypandy, Tonyrefail and Treorchy alongside significant school investments in 2018/19, and separate schemes at Llwynypia and Abercynon which were implemented last year.

“The proposals for Cilfynydd include a pedestrian crossing improvement, speed limit changes and footway improvements – and detailed plans of these proposed changes can be viewed on the Council’s website. Residents are asked to share their views before the consultation closes on January 15.”
