The final spaces have been secured and the race packs are soon to be distributed. Now it’s time for the Nos Galan Road Races committee to say a huge thanks to the event sponsors – Prichard’s, Amgen Cymru and Trivallis.
The three local companies have helped to Keep the Legend Alive for several years and continue to deliver vital support to Nos Galan as it goes virtual in response to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
Thanks to their sponsorship, the Nos Galan Road Races committee is not only able to keep the event running – albeit in a completely different way to “usual” – it can also protect plans for the event to return to the streets of Mountain Ash – complete with celebrity mystery runner, fancy dress races and fireworks – in 2022 if it is safe to do so.
Prichard’s is based in Llantrisant and offers construction and support service excellence, employing 120 people and supporting a range of local organisations.
Trivallis serves the whole of Rhondda Cynon Taf and is one of Wales’ largest social landlords and provides housing and community support.
Amgen Cymru works with the Council to deliver waste and recycling management and operates six community recycling centres on behalf of the authority, as well as two reuse shops (The Sheds) in Llantrisant and Treherbert. It also runs the massive Ty Amgen depot where recycling is sorted and cleaned and is a sustainability pioneer.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Chair of the Nos Galan Committee, said: “There is no other event like Nos Galan and this is demonstrated by the fact it attracts runners from all over the world to the streets of Mountain Ash every New Year’s Eve.
“Inspired by the legend of Guto Nyth Bran, once the fastest man in the world, the races offer a unique sporting challenge that also brings the community together to celebrate the start of a new year. It’s truly magical.
“The devastating Coronavirus pandemic continues to affect our communities and so, for 2021, the race remains a virtual one, as it was in 2020. We know it is not the same, but we are delighted with the support and enthusiasm of participants.
“They will be running, walking or jogging a 5k challenge and all those who compete will receive their commemorative Nos Galan 2021 t-shirt and medal. This year, Nos Galan has pushed its efforts to be sustainable and is delivering its race packs in recycled, recyclable bags and the medal has been made sustainably in the UK from wood.
“Every single person who is supporting us in this way and our sponsors are helping us to keep the event going and supporting our dream for it to return to Mountain Ash next New Year’s Eve.”
