The current temporary traffic arrangements at High Street in Llantrisant will change from Sunday evening. This follows a request from local businesses to improve access, and is made possible with the school exam season now over.
The Council continues to undertake essential, emergency repairs to the large wall at High Street, following its deterioration. Specialist contractors are working to partially rebuild and repair the wall – a time-consuming process that is complicated by the presence of other structures in close proximity.
A one-way traffic system (southbound, down the hill) has been in place to ensure safety, particularly for pedestrians walking at High Street. The one-way system was set up in a southbound direction as the least disruptive measure with all matters considered, including that it would be very difficult to manage home to school transport if the one-way system ran in the opposite direction.
However, with the school exam season concluded and lower numbers now travelling, it is possible for the one-way system to be changed to the opposite direction (northbound). This has been requested by businesses to improve access to local shops and encourage more people into Llantrisant Old Town.
Therefore, from around 10pm on Sunday, July 10, the one-way system will be changed to operate in a northbound direction (up the hill) only.
An alternative route for motorists travelling in the opposite (southbound) direction is via High Street, Heol-y-Sarn, Llantrisant Business Park Access Road, A4119 and Talbot Road. This route will be clearly signposted.
Please note that local bus service routes – as well as the route taken by the free shuttle bus service between Talbot Green Bus Station and Llantrisant Old Town – will be amended, coming into effect from Monday morning (July 11).
The northbound Edwards 100 Service (Pontypridd-Royal Glamorgan Hospital) and NAT Group 404 Service (Pontypridd-Porthcawl) will operate up through High Street and Old Llantrisant, then follow their normal service to Pontypridd. Southbound, they will divert from Beddau Square via Gwaunmiskin Road, Llantrisant Road, A473, A4119 and Talbot Road to Talbot Green Bus Station. Both stops at Wheatsheaf Public House will be suspended to ensure safety.
The free shuttle bus service operated by Edwards Coaches will run from Beddau Square, Brynteg Lane, Dancaerlan, Gwaun Ruperra Sheltered Accommodation, the Common, Royal Glamorgan Hospital and Talbot Green Bus Station – for onward connections. Please note that the shuttle bus times will remain the same (two-hourly, from 10am to 4pm each day).
Due to the ongoing complexity of the scheme, the Council is unable to give an estimated completion date as of yet. Thank you to the community for your continued patience and cooperation.
