The Council and Codi Group are delighted to announce that construction of the new extra care development in Porth has been completed and handed to the Council. This represents a major milestone towards welcoming its first residents in August.
Built on the former Dan-y-Mynydd Residential Care Home site, this impressive new development has revitalised the site and now provides first-class housing that will support older people to live independently. Residents will live in their own apartments and can come and go freely with staff present for scheduled care, and help in any urgent situations. It has become Rhondda Cynon Taf’s fourth extra care development – joining Ty Heulog (Talbot Green), Maesyffynnon (Aberaman) and Cwrt yr Orsaf (Graig).
The state-of-the-art development includes 60 self-contained apartments and modern facilities, including a dining area, hair salon, activity room, Council-managed day care centre, spa room, launderette, guest room and office space. Externally, residents will be able to enjoy a communal garden, with visitor parking also provided.
The building was handed over to the Council by project contractor Intelle Construction in the week commencing Monday, July 20. Radis Community Care will provide all on-site care and support when the facility is ready to welcome its first permanent residents in August 2026. The Council has published important information about how to express an interest in becoming a tenant at this new development.
The Council remains committed to investing in modern residential care accommodation that meets community needs. Specialist accommodation in Gelli is nearing completion, work has started on a mixed development in Mountain Ash, and future projects are planned for Ferndale and Church Village. I’d like to thank our contractor Intelle for their dedication in delivering this modern development, which has brought the former residential care home site back into use and created a state-of-the-art development we can all be proud of.
“For many years, the Council’s partnership with Codi Group, formerly Linc Cymru, has delivered upon a commitment to modernise residential care options for older people in Rhondda Cynon Taf. Together, we have delivered state-of-the-art extra care developments in Aberaman, Graig and now Porth, alongside the Talbot Green extra care development, which has been open since 2016. These sites remain popular community hubs, supporting older people not only with their care needs, but also with friendship and connection. We will continue investing in modern facilities that meet our communities’ changing needs.
“Having visited the Porth site on several occasions during the construction phase, I have seen it transformed into a first-class accommodation. Specialist care accommodation in Gelli is also nearing completion, while work has begun on a mixed care development in Mountain Ash, bringing extra care, dementia care and Later Living together on one site. Future schemes in Ferndale and Church Village are also being designed and developed.
