Residents are invited to come along and mark Armed Forces Day with a family‑friendly Picnic in the Park at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park, Pontypridd, on Saturday 20 June!
The event runs from 12pm to 4pm at the Bandstand, starting with a flag‑raising ceremony at 12pm, offering a chance for the community to come together and reflect as the day begins.
Held in the heart of Pontypridd, Picnic in the Park is a relaxed, family friendly way to show appreciation for our serving and former Armed Forces personnel, veterans and their families. Visitors are encouraged to bring a picnic, find a spot near the Bandstand and enjoy a great afternoon of live entertainment, activities and celebration!
Live performances will take place throughout the day from a range of talented local performers, including:
- DB Big Band
- Taff Ely Ladies Choir
- David Watkins, singer
There will also be plenty of family‑friendly activities throughout the afternoon. From a climbing wall and giant garden games to table-top activities and a trailer cave to explore, there’s something for the whole family to enjoy! An on‑site beer garden and food vans will also be available.
Councillor Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Council Business and the Welsh Language, said: “At Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, we’re proud to support our Armed Forces community, past and present, and to play our part in promoting their health, wellbeing and continued success.
As Armed Forces Champion, I’m really looking forward to another Picnic in the Park after the success of previous events, including last year’s VE Day 80 celebrations. I’m sure this year will be another fantastic day for everyone to come together, celebrate and reflect.”
Everyone is welcome to attend and take part in this special community event!
