This poignant and important event, held in partnership with the Royal British Legion, will take place at Y Muni, Pontypridd on Sunday, November 1
st.
People of all ages are invited to join us in showing support for our Armed Forces personnel past and present at what is set to be an emotional evening of performances.
Performing on the evening are talented young schoolchildren from Y Pant School Choir, Taff Ely Ladies Choir, Tylorstown Band, Soloist Heather Jones, accompanied by a number of standard bearers from the Royal British Legion. Stuart Davidson will be playing the bagpipes upon entry to the building, and at the end of the service.
Y Pant School has a rich tradition of performing arts and performed at last years Festival of Remembrance Concert. We welcome them back for their third appearance.
Tylorstown Band, who are former Eisteddfod champions, compete nationally at championship level throughout the UK and will be bringing a strong and moving performance.
The Taff Ely Ladies Choir is a group of women based just south of Tonyrefail. Since their formation, the choir has performed across the region and the West of England. A particular point of pride was their appearance at the 2024 National Eisteddfod in Pontypridd.
Heather Dolly Jones is a folk-pop singer-songwriter from Pontypridd, South Wales. She graduated in July 2026 from the Liverpool Institute for Performing Arts (LIPA) with a First Class BA (Hons) in Music (Popular, Contemporary & Commercial) and won the Buddy Holly Educational Foundation award. Recognised as a Loud Applause Rising Star in 2022, she’s performed at prestigious venues including Cardiff Castle, the Wales Millennium Centre, and the Liverpool Philharmonic. With vocal coaching from David Fortey and mentorship from Peter Mitchell, Heather has also attended masterclasses with icons such as Bjorn Ulvaeus of ABBA and Mike Joyce of The Smiths.
Reverand Charlotte Rushton from St Catherine’s Church, Pontypridd will lead the remembrance service.
As well as being a spectacle of music, singing and military performance, the Festival of Remembrance is also beautiful visually, with the colours of the flags, the uniforms of the military and, of course, a spectacular and moving moment as poppies cascade form the rafters of Y Muni.
Renowned choral conductor John Asquith will compere the evening. John, who is from the Rhondda, has been a key part of the Festival of Remembrance for over twenty years. He has performed as a choral conductor across the world and also coaches Russian for many famous choral societies and opera companies including Welsh National Opera.
Cllr Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Armed Forces Champion, said: “We are once again holding A Festival of Remembrance at Y Muni and we look forward to welcoming as many people as possible to the event on November 1st, where we have the support of the Armed Forces community as standard bearers from The Royal British Legion standard bearers lead the event.
“A Festival of Remembrance is a formal and poignant event to pay tribute to those who have, or are currently, serving our country. But it is also a powerful musical and visual event that all can enjoy.”
