Glamorgan Record Office

The records office is also a useful source of information as it collects, preserves and makes accessible documents relating to the geographical area it serves and maintains the corporate memory of its constituent authorities.

The records office can help you:

  • trace the history of your family
  • discover the history of your town, village or house
  • carry out research for a school, college or evening course

Loans, donations, bequests and sales

There would be few documents in the Record Office for people to use if no one handed their documents over to us. The vast majority of our holdings come from organisations and individuals around the area. Some have given their documents to us, but far more have retained ownership and simply lent us their records so that they can be looked after and used by local historians and those interested.

If you have documents you feel might be of interest for historical reasons, please do contact us. Documents held in the Record Office are kept in fire-protected strong rooms in carefully controlled atmospheric conditions to preserve them for the future.

All documents are held under our standard Terms of Deposit.
