Case Study: Specialist bathing facilities, internal restructure & improvement to external access
A local family with a young disabled child, recently found that their child had outgrown their previous adaptations at the family home. This was making daily life and caring for their child difficult for the family.
Following a visit from the Occupational Therapist, they were assessed for a larger shower area with a specialist shower bed which would support the child to be bathed more easily. It was also suggested that the internal layout of the property be altered to accommodate a specialist bed and non-slip flooring with additional electrical outlet to be added. To enable easier access into the home, it was decided the front garden would be paved and new parking area created.
The Housing Grants team supported the family throughout the process, including the family making their application. They were appointed an experienced contractor to carry out the work with minimal disruption to the family and their daily caring needs. All works were completed within two weeks, to enable the family to be able to adequately care for their child.
