On 31 July 2024, RCT Council launched its Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Welsh Speakers. The first of its kind in Wales, the scheme aims to increase the number of staff who are able to provide services in Welsh.
What is the scheme?
The scheme means that if you can speak Welsh at level 3 or above and meet all of the essential criteria for a vacancy, you’ll be guaranteed an interview for the role.
The scheme is applicable to all vacancies advertised by the Council, and you do not need to be applying for a Welsh Language essential post to benefit from the scheme. To participate in the scheme, applicants must tick a box on our application form and agree to use their Welsh Language skills where required if appointed.
Who can benefit from the scheme?
We’re looking for all types of Welsh speakers - whether you use Cymraeg confidently and regularly, are learning the language, or simply want to build your confidence using your Cymraeg, we encourage you to take advantage of the scheme!
Perhaps you learnt Cymraeg in school but haven’t had many opportunities to use it since, or you use it occasionally in your day-to-day life. This could be your opportunity to use the Cymraeg you already have and build your confidence along the way!
Welsh Language Support at RCT Council
The Guaranteed Interview Scheme is just one part of our wider commitment to the Welsh Language:
Learning Welsh
We support staff to develop and improve their Welsh language skills throughout their employment with the Council. Our internal Welsh Language tutor provides lessons for a range of Welsh language levels. Lessons also take place during working hours, with no requirement to make the time back, and are designed to be flexible and suit your individual needs.
Opportunities to Use Welsh at Work
We want Cymraeg to be a natural part of everyday working life within the Council. Staff are encouraged to use their Cymraeg in their day-to-day work, with support, resources and technology available to help you use the language with confidence.
There are also plenty of opportunities to celebrate and promote the Welsh language throughout the year. Our Welsh Language campaigns and activities celebrate Welsh culture, encourage staff to use Cymraeg and help promote the language both within the Council and across our communities.
