On 8th August 2017 the Treforest Industrial Estate and Parc Nantgarw Local Development Order (LDO) was adopted by Rhondda Cynon Taf. The LDO simplifies the planning process within the boundary shown by removing the need for a formal planning application for certain developments.

Could the LDO benefit my Business?
The LDO removes the need for a formal planning application for certain developments within the following categories:
- Development of new buildings for employment uses;
- Extensions and alterations to existing buildings;
- Changes of use of existing buildings to or between employment uses;
- Provision of structures, shelters and external works;
- Changes of use between retails uses;
- New small scale retails units (in part of Treforest Industrial Estate only).
Please note that some areas within the LDO boundary have much more limited rights under the LDO than others, and all the above categories are subject to exclusions, limitations and conditions. Click here for the full version of the LDO.

Why an LDO?
Rhondda Cynon Taf is committed to business growth and development and recognises the importance of Treforest Industrial Estate, which is the oldest working employment estate in Wales. Treforest Industrial Estate together with Parc Nantgarw is a strategic employment site at the heart of South East Wales which delivers economic benefit for the whole region due to its key anchor businesses, prime location, transport links and further and higher education presence.
The area must be able to function and develop to its full potential in a modern business environment in order to continue to create key employment and innovation opportunities. Rhondda Cynon Taf is working with partners to create these opportunities.
Rhondda Cynon Taf is introducing a Local Development Order for Treforest Industrial Estate and Parc Nantgarw to support this work with the aim of encouraging further development within this area and helping to deliver on the above potential. The Council want to do so by making it much easier for businesses to extend their premises or build new ones.
For further information on why the LDO has been introduced and the reasons for its content, please see the Modified Statement of Reasons within the Combined Modified Draft LDO and Modified Statement of Reasons document.
