Archaeology and Wellbeing
23rd July
10am - 3pm

Join us at Rhondda Heritage Park Museum on Wednesday 23rd July 2025 to learn about archaeology and wellbeing. We will have our VR headsets for you to try, learn about what food people used to grow and plant something up to take home with you. You’ll also get to find out how crafting is good for your wellbeing and how it goes hand in hand with archaeology. Sessions are £3 for children (adults are free) and the time slots are 10:00-12:00 or 13:00-15:00. We look forward to seeing you there!

Dr Richard Griffiths Tramroad Trail Walk
25th July

Join a member of our heritage team who will take you on a guided tramroad walk from Rhondda Heritage Park Museum to Barry Sidings Countryside Park. During the walk you’ll find out information about fossils, why some of the streams in this area are red, view the entrance to an old drift mine and see how the valley has changed over time. This event is free and suitable for all ages. Please wear suitable clothing and ensure you have a drink with you. The walk will start from Rhondda Heritage Park Museum at 11am on Friday 25th July.

Free Research Sessions
29th July, 26th August, 30th September, 28th October
Interested in the history of South Wales? Join our research group! We’re concentrating on war memorial research in our upcoming session on 29th July. 10am – 12pm. All sessions are free – come along and join the group here at Rhondda Heritage Park Museum. Please bring a laptop or tablet if possible to help with the research.

Summer 2025 - Boredom Buster Sessions 
29th July - 26th August
Looking for fun, creativity, and family-friendly activities this summer? We've got just the thing to keep boredom at bay! Join us every Tuesday for hands-on adventures that'll spark imagination and smiles.
 Weekly sessions run from 29th July – 26th August.
Here’s what’s coming up:
 Week 1 – 29 July: Make Some Toys Kick-start the holidays by crafting games and toys for hours of fun!
 Week 2 – 5 August: Under the Sea & All Things Nautical Create magical sea creature
and ocean-inspired crafts!
 Week 3 – 12 August: Beautiful Beasties From snakes to spiders—design your very own wild and wonderful critters.
 Week 4 – 19 August: Flying High Build breezy creations like kites, spinners and paper planes—let your imagination soar!
 Week 5 – 26 August: Imagination Station Make puppets and your own mini theatre—then put on a show!

 All sessions are family-friendly and packed with creativity. Don’t miss your chance to make, play, and explore each week!
£3 per child. 1 adult free per child. Session times are: 10am – 12pm. 1pm – 3pm.

Maerdy and Lluest Wen Reservoir Walk
August 1st
11am
Join a member of the heritage team and take in the historical sites surrounding the Maerdy and Lleust-wen reservoir. During this 9km walk you'll pass the Castell Nos filter house and take in some incredible views from the reservoir. Although the route is flat and well maintained, it is a long walk. Please make sure you wear appropriate clothing and bring water with you. For this free event we will meet at the Maerdy Gateway memorial (CF43 4BE) at 11am on Friday 1st August (weather dependent). We look forward to seeing you there!

National Book Lovers Day. Book Swap and Book Making Craft Sessions

Celebrate the joy of reading—and making—this National Book Lovers Day with us!
Book Swap
Bring your pre-loved books and swap them with fellow book lovers throughout the day—fresh reads and friendly chats await!
 Book-Making Workshops with Craft of Hearts
Get hands-on and create your very own mini book from cover to cover—think decorated pages, clever pockets, and endless possibilities. Suitable for ages 6+ (children must be accompanied and may need a helping hand!)
 Session times:
• 10:30–11:30
• 12:00–1:00
• 2:00–3:00  £4.75 per person (all materials included)

Halloween Spooktacular

Join us for a Halloween hunt, pumpkin pickin’ and so much more at this much loved annual event.

Santa’s Toy Mine
22nd November - Christmas Eve
Santa arrives at the end of November for this month long, sparkly Christmas treat! Follow his toy miners underground on the hunt for the most magical grotto!
