Learners across Rhondda Cynon Taf receive their GCSE results grades today (Thursday, August 12) during what has been yet another challenging year for education.
It is therefore important to congratulate each and every one of our learners on their academic efforts and achievements, and for the resilience they have shown throughout the pandemic. Our schools should also feel immensely proud of their learners’ achievements.
Learners, school leaders and staff across the County Borough have shown tremendous endurance during the past academic year and the achievements today are testimony to their perseverance and hard work.
This year, learners undertaking GCSEs have had their qualifications awarded through a Centre Determined Grade model, following a Ministerial decision and a change in the regulations for GCSE, AS and A level courses.
Qualifications Wales worked with the WJEC to develop a framework for supporting schools and colleges in their development of robust assessment plans and quality assurance processes for determining learner grades.
Our school staff and learners have shown excellent application and diligence in adapting to these new arrangements. The qualifications and successes achieved today will enable our learners to progress on to post-16 education, apprenticeships, employment or further training.
Councillor Joy Rosser, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Inclusion Services, said:
“Today is a day for all of our learners and teachers to take great pride in their hard work and achievements during what has been yet another very challenging academic year.
“The Council once again is rightly recognising and celebrating the successful outcomes achieved by our Rhondda Cynon Taf learners and their educators and I send each and every one of them my sincere congratulations.
“Just like the AS, A-Levels and the vocational qualifications which were announced earlier this week, GCSE results day is a very different experience this year across the local authority, the region and nation. I have the utmost respect and admiration for all of our learners and wish them well as they continue with their education and chosen career path.”
