Essential work by Openreach requires a road closure at Penycoedcae Road from February 13-21. A free shuttle bus service will be in place as the NAT Group Service 404 between Pontypridd and Bridgend will be unable to take its normal route.
Openreach requires the closure of Penycoedcae Road – north of its junction with Heol-y-Beddau, for around one mile (in a northerly direction). The closure will be manned at all times and access will be provided to residents living within the closure area, as well as for emergency services and pedestrians.
The closure will be in place from 8am-5pm, from Saturday, February 13, to Sunday, February 21. The road will reopen outside of these hours.
An alternative route will be clearly signposted. Motorists should proceed via Penycoedcae Road, Gwaunmiskin Road, Llantrisant Road, Tonteg Road, Upper Boat Roundabout, A470, Broadway, Sardis Road, Factory Lane, Llantrisant Road and Penycoedcae Road – or this route in reverse order.
Bus users are advised that the NAT Group Service 404 between Pontypridd and Bridgend will be unable to serve its normal route between 8am and 5pm during the closure period. It will therefore divert via Treforest and Church Village, resuming its normal bus route from Beddau Square.
In order to facilitate connections, Xarrow Travel will operate a free shuttle bus service on Mondays to Saturdays for the duration of the closure – between 8am and 5pm each day.
The shuttle bus will depart the Queen’s Head pub (Penycoedcae) hourly, on the hour, from 8am-4pm – then it will serve all stops to Pontypridd Bus Station, where it will meet the 404 Service. This will allow onward travel on the 404 route between Beddau and Bridgend. It will also enable passengers from Penycoedcae and Graig to access services to other destinations.
Returning, the shuttle bus will depart Pontypridd Bus Station (Bay 13) hourly, at around 25 minutes past the hour, from 8.25am to 4.25pm – having awaited the arrival of Service 404. This will allow onward travel to Graig and Penycoedcae.
