Rugby fans across Rhondda Cynon Taf are being urged to drink and act responsibly and to follow Welsh Government’s current Coronavirus Alert Level 4 restrictions in Wales.
COVID-19 has not gone away, and just like those on the rugby pitch have a game to play, we too all have a part to play in beating the virus. But this can only be done by acting responsibly.
People must still stay at home within their household bubbles, not mix in groups with family or friends and not flout the rules and regulations.
Those who break the law face prosecution.
Any licensed premises which break the law face a hefty fine and a review of their premises licence, which could result in a loss of licence.
Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones, a former Nos Galan Mystery Runner, has previously recorded a special exclusive message for Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, urging residents to support the Wales team, but at the same time to maintain social distancing, wash your hands regularly and be sensible.
Captain Alun Wyn Jones, a former Nos Galan Mystery Runner, has gained 143 caps for his country to date.
The Wales and British and Irish Lions rugby legend, who has 143 Welsh caps, said: “This virus has not gone away, but together we can tackle it. Look after yourselves, your family and your community and we can beat this together – teamwork.”
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Leader, Councillor Andrew Morgan, is calling on all residents and businesses to join forces and support the Council in a bid to reduce the spread of the virus which will contribute to Welsh Government lowering the Coronavirus Alert Level when it is safe to do so.
Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council, said: “We all have a part to play in staying safe and protecting ourselves, our loved ones and our communities from this deadly virus.
“Just because the Six Nations is getting underway does not mean we have seen the back of COVID-19. It is still very much with us, affecting all of our lives and claiming the lives of many people.
“We must all continue our efforts to contain the virus locally and prevent its spread through our communities.
“Huge steps have been taken in recent weeks, with the Health Board rolling out the vaccination programme across our County Borough. But we all need to stick to the rules and guidelines in place otherwise we face the risk of continuing the widespread transmission of the virus and lengthening the period of Coronavirus Alert Level 4 restrictions.
“We need everyone to work with us, not against us on this and to take the necessary actions to slow the spread of this virus.
“Enjoy the rugby over the coming weeks, support our national side as you always do, but this year let’s all do that safely and responsibly.”
Positive steps we can all take include stay at home and only leave the house for limited reasons such as daily exercise, medical reasons or exceptional circumstances.
Also stick to the rules, arrange virtual chats with family and friends while watching the game, arrange all your food and drink shopping deliveries online and behave responsibly.
