The simple acts of kindness and caring for each other are just two strengths to come out of the COVID-19 global pandemic and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is proud of the inspiring outcomes that’s its social care staff are continuing to achieve alongside individuals, families and communities.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s social care, along with its commissioned providers, continues to provide vital services to those people who need them the most.
The Council is supporting the WeCare Wales campaign, which has been developed by Social Care Wales in collaboration with a wide range of national and local organisations. A career in social care is rewarding, stimulating, varied and very satisfying.
The aim of the campaign is to attract more people into working within the care sector, which includes early years and childcare roles, as Wales will need thousands more by 2030.
Councillor Geraint Hopkins, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cabinet Member for Adult Social Services and Welsh Language, said:
“All of our staff working in the social care sector continue to do so under such challenging circumstances, highlighting the great need for people like them in our communities.
“Despite all of the difficulties we have faced during the pandemic, our social care workforce stand out as a beacon of professionalism and resilience for the commitment and dedication they have shown throughout.
“This continues to be such a difficult time for everyone and I urge anyone interested in a career in social care to take the first step today. Many families and individuals rely on the support of others, especially now.
“The Council fully supports the WeCare campaign as it strives to recruit more care workers over the next 10 years. It is not only such a rewarding career, but the support our care workers provide is something that some of the most vulnerable in our communities cannot live without."
Currently one in 17 adults in Wales works in social care or early years and childcare, but as people live longer, projections indicate that around 20,000 more employees will be needed.
There is an increasing need for staff across a wide range of roles for those who have a variety of experience and qualifications, especially qualified social workers.
Councillor Tina Leyshon, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said:
“This past year has taught us all that a caring and sharing environment helps get so many people through the dark times, in their hours of need and at all stages in their lives.
“Being a part of any child’s development is such a rewarding job, seeing them at play, helping them to learn and guiding them as they begin their exploration in life.
“The world, the UK and Wales needs more people working in the care sector and I urge anyone interested in this as a career path for themselves to do something about it now – your actions today could help create a better future for everyone.”
WeCare Wales is raising awareness and understanding of social care, early years and childcare and aims to attract more people with the right skills and values to work in caring roles with children and adults.
