Leisure for Life customers will notice changes to timetables and increased capacity in the gyms, swimming pools and fitness classes from Monday August 9.
As Covid guidance and restrictions are relaxed, staff across the service are preparing to gradually return to pre-Covid attendance numbers over the coming weeks.
As well as the increased capacity numbers in activities that returned some time ago, Leisure for Life welcomes the return of team sports such as indoor five-a-side football, netball and gymnastics.
Customers are reminded that Llantrisant Leisure Centre and Rhondda Sports Centre remain mass vaccination centres.
Both centres will continue to offer limited gym/swimming and fitness classes during this time, with their main purpose being to continue to support the increasing freedoms afforded by the roll-out of the COVID-19 vaccination programme.
Things are changing fast in Leisure for Life. The app – which can be downloaded for free from the apple and Google play stores – remains the most effective way to get the latest news, updates and timetables.
You can use the app to select your preferred Leisure for Life centre (s) to see what’s on, how many spaces are left in a session and how to join or book online. App notifications on increased capacity and resumed team sports are sent straight to your phone or device as they are confirmed.
Cllr Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment, Leisure and Heritage Services, said: “Leisure for Life is re-opening and extending provision cautiously as the easing of Covid-related restrictions allow.
“New Covid guidance allows them to meet the clear demand from many customers for increased capacity in the activities they have been enjoying – and the return of the sports they have missed.
“Meeting this demand while continuing to keep customers, staff and the wider community safe is no mean feat. Leisure for Life staff across all 10 centres should be commended for their ongoing efforts.
“The successful and safe increase to Leisure for Life capacity, as Covid-related guidance allows, has also only been possible thanks to our customers’ co-operation and responsibility. We urge them to take note of the continued safety requirements expected of them.
“Finally, Leisure for Life remain as committed to the needs of those customers who still feel safer staying at home – they are reassured their memberships will remain frozen until they are ready to return.”
Customers must:
- Continue to wear face coverings while walking around leisure facilities – masks can be removed for exercise in line with Welsh Government Guidance.
- Be aware availability, capacity and booking procedures will vary between centres. Each centre will post their individual/specific guidelines on Facebook and the app.
- Be prepared to continue to pre-book for some activities, such as early-morning swims. Again, this may vary between centres, so keep an eye on the app or ring if you are not sure.
- Use the provided sanitiser to clean their own fitness and class equipment after use. (Staff will continue to sanitise rooms, corridors and equipment.
- Consider the feelings of others when using centres. Some customers may wish to remain socially distanced.
- Exercise their own caution when using facilities and alert staff if they have concerns.
- Be aware we are gradually changing operations over the next few weeks – please be patient.
