Improving Council's Recruitment Process For Armed Forces Community

To further demonstrate the Council’s continued support and commitment to its Armed Forces community, and to honour the spirit of the Armed Forces Covenant, the Council has launched its new Guaranteed Interview Scheme.

Aimed at all Service leavers, Veterans and Reservists who meet the required essential criteria for any vacancy set out in any Council employment pack, this initiative will guarantee the individuals an interview invitation for the position available, further cementing the relationship between the Council and its Armed Forces.

Councillor Maureen Webber, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council Deputy Leader and Armed Forces Champion, said: “The introduction of the Council’s new Guaranteed Interview Scheme helps make it easier for our Armed Forces community and veterans in Rhondda Cynon Taf to overcome barriers to civilian employment post active service and also helps reduce the potential health and well-being impacts of long-term unemployment.

“In turn, the Council will benefit from a wider selection of candidates who meet the essential criteria and who may have a large number of transferrable skills.”

All employment vacancies within Rhondda Cynon Taf Council now state that it welcomes applications from its Armed Forces community.

Although the Council’s Guaranteed Interview Scheme provides the guarantee of an interview to those who meet the essential criteria, it does not however, guarantee employment, as selection procedures would ensure the best candidate for the job is appointed.
