Learners at Ysgol Ty Coch are celebrating after winning a Safer Internet Day challenge as part of the UK-wide awareness campaign.
The Rhondda Cynon Taf school won the secondary age category, making their own internet safety awareness film, which certainly caught the attention of the judging panel.
The aim of Safer Internet Day is to challenge learners of all ages to create a safer internet for all to enjoy by shaping interactive entertainment spaces, fostering supportive relationships and respectful communities, whilst at the same time equipping them with the skills needed to keep themselves and others safe within these spaces.
Councillor Jill Bonetto, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Education and Inclusion Services, said: “I would like to congratulate all at Ysgol Ty Coch on this national recognition for their work on Safer Internet Day.
“All their hard work, creativity and commitment has certainly paid off as we encourage all of our learners across Rhondda Cynon Taf to stay safe and always be respectful when using the internet, especially when interacting with others.
“Respecting each other in a digital space is very important in the world we live in, and it is wonderful to see our children engage with this message and really show that they understand why it is important to stay safe online.”
David Jenkins, Headteacher at Ysgol Ty Coch, said: “I am absolutely delighted that the pupils of Ysgol Ty Coch have been recognised for this award. Internet safety forms a vital part of our school curriculum and it is clear that our pupils recognise the benefits of using the internet whilst also keeping safe. They truly are developing into wonderfully healthy and confident individuals.”
