Have you ever considered becoming a Councillor? Are you interested in representing your community and your local area as an elected member?
Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is hosting two sessions on ‘Becoming a Councillor’ aimed at all prospective candidates or anyone who already plays an active role in their community and is seeking a new challenge. Anyone interested can join the online virtual session on Wednesday, March 2 (5pm) or in person in the Council Chamber, The Pavilions, Clydach Vale, on Thursday, March 3 (2pm).
To become a candidate, you must be over the age of 18, on the electoral register, and have lived, worked or owned property within the County Borough for at least the past 12 months.
Mr Christian Hanagan, Service Director – Democratic Services and Communication said:
“The Council has committed to encourage as diverse a range of people as possible to stand for election in May’s local government elections.
“In addition to the information already published by the Council and the Welsh Local Government Association, these two informal events seek to provide the opportunity for anyone who is interested, or considering standing for election as a Councillor, to find out more about the role and the support made available by the Council to support new candidates and newly elected Councillors.
“The events aim to showcase how, whatever your background or personal circumstances, the flexibility of the role and the support made available to support newly elected members, make standing to become a Councillor, a rewarding opportunity for anyone who cares passionately about their local area.”
You do not need to be part of a political party to stand for election in your community.
Details of how the nomination process works in order to be able to stand as a candidate at these elections will also be provided at these sessions.
