A recent housing development in Cwrt Y Briallu, on the site of the old Tonypandy Primary School, has been successfully completed. In partnership Cynon Taf Community Housing Group, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and the Welsh Government have provided 21 new affordable homes, in an area of RCT where affordable housing is much needed.
A total of £3.7 million was invested into the development with £968k allocated by the Council directly from the Social Housing Grant that’s funded by the Welsh Government. This grant is available to Registered Social Landlords to fund affordable housing schemes to meet local housing needs within local authorities.
Of the 21 homes built there are 8 three-bedroom homes as well as 1 three-bedroom adapted bungalows, along with 12 one-bedroom flats. All new residents successfully moved into their new homes prior to Christmas.
Councillor Robert Bevan, Cabinet Member for Enterprise, Development & Housing said: “I’m extremely pleased that the Cwrt Y Briallu scheme has been completed, with all units fully-occupied.
“Delivering good quality, affordable housing is a key priority for the Council, and we will continue to deliver further projects to support our residents.
“This has been another successful project, delivered with our key partners, and I look forward to seeing future projects completed.”
