Councillor Wendy Treeby has been reappointed as the Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf at the Council Annual General Meeting, which was held on Wednesday, May 25, 2022.
Councillor Treeby, Elected Member for Mountain Ash, initially took on the role in January following the departure of her predecessor, Councillor Jill Bonetto, who joined the Council Cabinet as Member for Education and Inclusion Services.
Councillor Treeby said she is looking forward to her time as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, a place she has lived all her life and continues to champion the County Borough at every opportunity.
Councillor Wendy Treeby, Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, speaking following her appointment, said: “It is a huge honour for me to serve as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf during a historic year as the County Borough celebrates The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee and also welcomes the Queen’s Baton Relay back to Rhondda Cynon Taf ahead of the Commonwealth Games.
“The Council will also be granted the Freedom of the County Borough to Welsh rugby legend Neil Jenkins MBE and also to all key workers, who did so much for us all throughout the global pandemic.
“After a very difficult two years for everyone, it is now time for us to publicly thank all of our key workers collectively, far too many to name and recognise individually. But we are grateful for all that you did for us and continue to do to this day.
“I am proud to be the First Citizen of this County Borough at this time – a time for reflection and also time to move on slowly and as best we can. As Mayor, I will continue to support many charities throughout the year and look forward to meeting as many people as possible.”
Among the charities Councillor Treeby will be supporting during her term as Mayor of Rhondda Cynon Taf, is Wales Air Ambulance, Stroke Association and Green Meadow Riding for the Disabled, as well as supporting the Armed Forces.
Also re-appointed at the Council AGM meeting on Wednesday, May 25, was Rhondda Cynon Taf Deputy Mayor, Councillor Wendy Lewis, Elected Member for Llwynypia Ward.
