The Council has announced that it will provide new Multi Use Games Areas in Penygraig and Graig. They will be built early next year, improving the outdoor play opportunities in the areas.
The two new outdoor facilities, known as MUGAs, will be located at Penygraig Park and Albert Road/Maritime Terrace in Graig, Pontypridd. They are funded via a £200,000 investment from the Council’s Capital Programme in 2022/23, and each facility will be dedicated for community use.
Construction work is likely to start at each location during February 2023, for completion in the following month (subject to fair weather). The Council will communicate details about the construction arrangements in due course.
Councillor Ann Crimmings, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Cabinet Member for Environment and Leisure, said: “I’m pleased the Council has brought forward this investment in Multi Use Games Areas for Penygraig and Graig, to be delivered this financial year. MUGAs are popular facilities with young people to enjoy various sports and other play opportunities – and were included in many of our recent state-of-the-art school investments.
“Improving community facilities for our young people continues to be a Council priority, to promote healthy outdoor exercise and the well-being benefits that come with this. Earlier this year, the Council announced its latest programme to improve children’s play areas across the County Borough – with a £672,000 investment for 19 refurbishment projects this year. More than 100 play areas have been improved over the past seven years in a total investment of £4.8m.
“Work will begin to deliver the new Penygraig Park and Albert Road/Maritime Terrace MUGAs in the New Year. I’m looking forward to seeing work progress on site to deliver these brand new facilities for the benefit of each community.”
