Georgia - Communications Graduate Officer

Name: Georgia

Joined Graduate Programme: September 2023

Graduate Role: Communications Graduate Officer

Current Role: Communications Officer

Degree: BA and MA History

What was the biggest highlight of your Graduate Programme experience?

The biggest highlight of my Graduate Programme was the opportunity to work across a range of departments to support them with their communications strategy. I was also given the opportunity to work on exciting events, including the Eisteddfod and the 2024 General Election – both of which provided me with insights of working across different types of events and industries while supporting their communications and marketing.

What was your biggest challenge, and how did you overcome it?

The biggest challenge for me initially was balancing my new role with my part-time MA in History, as I was still a part-time postgraduate student when I started the role. I overcame this by ensuring to manage my time efficiently utilising my calendar to organise my workload and prioritise tasks. This then set me up nicely for commencing the Level 4 Diploma in Project Management, which I completed alongside my role.

What advice would you give to anyone considering applying for the Graduate Programme?

My advice would be to make the most out of those first couple weeks where the days feel a bit slower because it won’t last for long! Really use that time to familiarise yourself with your role, team, and department. You’ll be setting yourself up for success once things do start to become busy. Secondly, take all opportunities that come your way. The skills and knowledge you pick up from assisting people with their work, helping on projects, and picking up ad hoc tasks is invaluable.
