How it works

You need to request a food waste bin to have your food waste collected.

Recycling your food waste keeps pests out of your black bags, helps manage your black bag allowance and reduces landfill gasses that aren't good for our environment.

Within two weeks of requesting a food waste bin you will receive:

  • a small bin for your kitchen.
  • a larger bin for outside (lockable to prevent animals getting inside).

You will also receive a roll of food waste bags which should be used to line your kitchen food waste bin. Once full, these bags should be removed, tied and placed into the larger food waste bin which can be stored outside until your collection day.

Collections take place weekly from your usual waste and recycling point.

To put your food waste out for collection:

  • Request a food bin
  • Check your food waste collection day
  • Put only food waste in your food bags.
  • Use only food waste bags provided by us.
  • Do not overfill your bags.
  • When your kitchen food waste bin is full, remove the bag and tie the top tightly.
  • Place the bag in your outside food waste bin.
  • Lock the top of the bin to prevent animals getting inside.
  • Place your large food waste bin at your usual collection point by 7am.

Picking up more bags

Pick up food waste bags from a number of locations locally.

Do not overstock your food waste bags as they are made from a corn-starch material which naturally biodegrade. They will weaken over time and may break during use.

Reporting a missed collection

Our crews may be delayed and may not collect your bags until later in the day. If your bags have not been collected after 24 hours, you can report your missed collection.
