Thinking about Welsh medium education for your child?
We’re here to help you. Welsh medium education is available to every child here in Rhondda Cynon Taf. There are many added benefits to choosing a Welsh medium education, we’ve covered them in our handy guide for parents/guardians available to view here: Being Bilingual in Rhondda Cynon Taf
Being Bilingual
There are many benefits to being bilingual. Research has shown that children who speak two languages can be more versatile, more creative in their thinking and can find it easier to learn other languages. The benefits continue into adulthood as speaking more than one language is an additional skill to add to your CV and employers in Wales need bilingual workforces as services need to be offered bilingually.
Latecomers to Welsh Education
Don’t think that it’s too late for your child to learn Welsh! Support is now available to enable latecomers to the language to access Welsh medium education. Pupils will be supported to quickly get up-to-speed with their Welsh language skills to begin their journey to becoming bilingual. Click here for further information.
Concerned that you are not a Welsh speaker?
Don’t be! There is no need to be worried as all our Welsh medium schools offer fantastic support to English speaking parents. The majority of parents who send their children to Welsh medium schools are English speaking, so they are used to this approach and you won’t be alone. The Being Bilingual booklet above discusses some other common concerns parents have.
