The new gym and spin studio at Abercynon Sports Centre is now complete, with customers loving the modern design and brand new equipment.
The stunning transformation took just a few weeks, thanks to the commitment of staff and contractors.
Transforming RCT funding has enabled the gym to be extended, with the introduction of a larger free weights area and the replacement of all the former fitness equipment with brand new models that are the very latest spec. Importantly, all the fitness equipment was chosen by customers, who worked with staff to identify what new equipment they wanted to see in the gym and also which favourite equipment they wanted upgrading.
The entire space has been redesigned and carefully laid out, with modern graphics and new mood lighting. The space formerly used for spin classes has been opened up and incorporated into the gym space.
Meanwhile, an old fitness studio has been transformed into an immersive spin studio, featuring 25 new bikes – again of the very highest spec – graphics, new flooring and ceiling, sound system and mood lighting.
Importantly, Abercynon Sports Centre staff worked in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Diversity and Inclusion Team, and Disabled Staff Network, to ensure the new spaces were inclusive and accessible. This has led to the introduction of a lift for wheelchairs to the lower level of the gym, a new accessible water fountain, important input on the layout of, and navigation around, the spaces and additional, adaptive equipment.
