The Council is committed to providing a first-class, modern care accommodation in Ferndale, focusing on dementia care. The development will be built on the former ‘Chubb’ Factory site.
The new accommodation will replace the current Ferndale House Residential Care Home. Following a previous agreement, the existing setting’s established and committed workforce will transfer to the new development when it is completed, alongside its current residents.
The project reached an important milestone in August 2026 when full planning permission was granted to deliver the new building and facilities.
The new building will support 32 residential dementia care places, which responds to local needs. It will include office spaces, dining areas, and a kitchen and laundry. Landscaping works will be undertaken externally, with an on-site car park provided and sustainable drainage installed.
The brownfield site has been demolished, and the new home will continue to use the current access from the A4233 via Ferndale Industrial Estate.
