Councillor Clayton Willis, Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s Elected Member for the Tyn-Y-Nant Ward, has sadly passed away.
Councillor Willis has represented the Tyn-Y-Nant ward on Rhondda Cynon Taf Council since the Council came in to existence in 1995/96 and throughout his time on the Council, he also previously served as a Cabinet Member between 2004 and 2014.
Leading the many tributes to Councillor Willis is Rhondda Cynon Taf’s current Mayor, Councillor Jill Bonetto.
Rhondda Cynon Taf Mayor, Councillor Jill Bonetto, said: “It is with great sadness that we learn of the recent passing of Councillor Clayton Willis.
“He was a true gentleman who proudly represented his community for 25 years. He was a proud representative of the Tyn-Y-Nant ward on Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and served his community with great passion.
“On behalf of all of Rhondda Cynon Taf’s Elected Members, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to Clayton’s family and friends at this time. We will all miss his sense of humour, his warmth and generosity.”
Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “Councillor Clayton Willis was an exemplary elected member for the Tyn-Y-Nant Ward for many years, and all of his colleagues here at Rhondda Cynon Taf mourn his passing.
“A passionate Councillor and campaigner, he cared deeply about his community and all those people who lived and worked within it. As the long-standing elected member for his area, Councillor Willis always strived to represent and make his voice heard on behalf of his community.
“Having served as a Cabinet Member for a number years, as well as an elected member since the inception of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, I will always be grateful for his help and support and my thoughts are with his family at this time.”
Born and raised in Ty-Nant, Councillor Willis, whose wife Wendy sadly passed away a few years ago, is survived by daughters Sarah, Ruth and family.
