The Council’s Youth Engagement and Participation Service (YEPS) has been awarded the Quality Mark For Youth Work in Wales.
The Quality Mark embraces the diversity of types of provision and their styles of delivery. The Bronze Award presented to YEPS is in recognition of its performance management, quality of youth work practice and young people’s learning and development.
Each year, YEPS support over 10,000 young people, aged 11-25 and living in Rhondda Cynon Taf, to improve their wellbeing and resilience through one-to-one support and group work.
The Service also offers a range of youth provision, including after-school, school holidays and evening provision such as youth clubs and street-based youth work.
YEPS support young people into suitable education, employment and training settings, ensures young people have access to reliable information, advice and guidance, as well as promoting their rights and to enable them to become active members of their community.
Councillor Christina Leyshon, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, said: “I am delighted that the Council’s Youth Engagement and Participation Service has received the Quality Mark, which can be directly linked with the National Occupational Standards and Youth Work in Wales.
“This is in recognition of all the wonderful work carried out by the Service, especially during the past 18 months, which have been so difficult for us all.
“YEPS delivers invaluable support to so many all year around, reaching out to thousands of young people living in our County Borough.
“Their work became even more important when youth clubs and schools closed but they responded in great fashion, providing valuable support, advice and guidance, as well as entertainment.”
The Quality Mark for Youth Work in Wales provides a framework for quality assurance and is designed as a support and development tool which provides youth work organisations such as YEPS with an opportunity to articulate, assess and improve their work within a structured framework.
