The Council requires a road closure on the next three Sundays in Ton Pentre, to complete the final resurfacing and relining for ongoing works at the mini-roundabout at Church Road.
The existing mini-roundabout is being replaced with a raised junction as part of wider highway improvements, which got underway during late February 2022. The upcoming Sunday works will take place from 8am to 5pm on April 24, May 1 and May 8 – and will complete the works activity at this location.
Church Road will be closed between Maindy Road and Ystrad Road, with associated closures at Pryce Street, Church Street and Bailey Street from their junctions with Church Road. The access road to the Church of St John the Baptist will also close from its junction with Bailey Street, for 20-metres.
The closures, which will be manned, are illustrated on the following map.
An alternative route for motorists will be clearly signposted via the A4058 Ystrad Road, Tyisaf Road, Gelli Road and Church Road. Access will be maintained for both emergency service vehicles and pedestrians.
During the closures, an hourly shuttle bus service will operate the following route in both directions – Glandwr Hotel, Ystrad Road, Tyisaf Road, Gelli Road and Church Road, turning at the Phoenix Theatre and Nebo Estate.
It will run hourly between 8.29am and 5.29pm in a northbound direction (towards Treorchy) and between 9.26am and 6.26pm in a southbound direction (towards Tonypandy). Operated by Thomas of Rhondda, it will connect with Stagecoach services 120 and 130 at the Glandwr Hotel for onward travel in both directions.
The Council would like to thank residents and the wider community for their cooperation during these road closures, which are scheduled on consecutive Sundays to minimise disruption to residents and local bus services.
