**UPDATED, 05/05/22 – additional bus service.
A temporary one-way traffic system will be implemented at High Street and Church Street in Llantrisant – to ensure a safe environment for road users, pedestrians and the workforce, as retaining wall repairs continue.
The structure was identified as being in urgent need of repair, and following close monitoring the Council undertook emergency overnight works on March 23 to remove a damaged section of the wall. A lane/footway closure was put in place over 35-metres of High Street, from its junction with Church Street.
Spectrum Construction Services Ltd is appointed to undertake the main repair work, which started three weeks ago and is due for completion this summer.
From Wednesday, April 20 (at around 8pm after local bus services), a one-way system for traffic will be introduced at High Street and Church Street, to ensure the works can safely progress. Access will be maintained for emergency services and pedestrians.
The one-way system in High Street will operate in a southerly direction only (i.e. downhill only), between its junctions with Commercial Street and Talbot Road. An alternative route for motorists will be clearly signposted via Talbot Road, A4119, Llantrisant Business Park Access Road, Heol-y-Sarn (Common Road) and High Street. Additional diversion signage will also be placed at the southern side of the one-way system.
The one way system in Church Street will operate in a westerly direction only, from its junction with High Street to its junction with Castle Street. An alternative route for motorists will be clearly signposted via School Street, Swan Street, the bull ring and High Street.
Maps outlining the separate road closures and one-way systems at High Street and Church Street can be found on the Council’s website.
Please note, local bus services travelling towards Talbot Green and the Royal Glamorgan Hospital will not be affected by these traffic arrangements.
However, the Edwards Service 100 (Royal Glamorgan Hospital to Pontypridd) and the NAT Group Service 400 (Porthcawl to Pontypridd) will be unable to serve Llantrisant Old Town. They will divert via Cross Inn, Southgate, A473 and Gwaunmiskin/Beddau, before resuming their normal routes to Pontypridd.
Passengers travelling to Llantrisant from the Royal Glamorgan Hospital, Talbot Green and beyond should travel northbound to Beddau Square, and then connect to other services travelling back into Llantrisant Old Town.
Please note, passengers will not have to pay for two tickets when travelling north to Beddau and then south back to Llantrisant while the temporary one-way system is in place. NAT Group and Edwards Coaches will accept the original ticket issued by either operator for this journey.
**The Council can confirm that, following the feedback received, it has reviewed the current bus provision and identified further enhancements. From Wednesday, May 4, a free shuttle bus service to Llantrisant Old Town is being operated by Edwards Coaches (Monday to Friday only). Journeys from Talbot Green Bus Station will run at two-hourly intervals between 10am and 4pm. It will travel over Llantrisant Common, calling at Gwaun Rupera Sheltered Housing Complex, Heol Gwynno and Swan Street to the Bull Ring. From there, it will travel via Newbridge Road, Dan Caerlan, Brynteg and finally Beddau Square – for connections with the Edwards 90 and 100 Services to Pontypridd, and the NAT Group 404 Service to Pontypridd via Penycoedcae.
It has also been necessary to amend local school transport routes (from April 25) due to the new traffic arrangements. Those pupils affected have been sent letters detailing the changes – with the new timetables summarised here.
The Council would like to thank the community for their cooperation as the urgent retaining wall repairs are completed for the benefit of the community.
