People across Rhondda Cynon Taf are invited to come together and pay their respects to those who made the ultimate sacrifice at the Pontypridd Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service.
The event will take place in Ynysangharad War Memorial Park on Sunday, November 13. It will include a parade through the park involving people of all ages from a range of community and military organisations.
Schools, Brownies and Scouts groups, Cadets and representatives of the Royal British Legion and Rhondda Cynon Taf Council will join veterans and serving members of the Armed Forces Community in the parade.
A service will take place at the War Memorial with a chance for everyone to join in prayer and a two-minute silence to remember those who gave their lives in service to their country.
It is also a chance for the Council and residents to reaffirm support for our Armed Forces Community, past and present.
Ynysangharad War Memorial Park is a fitting location for the Remembrance Sunday Service and Parade. It was renamed in 1923 to honour those who made the ultimate sacrifice.
For 99 years, the park has been a place of respect and remembrance. In 2011, the park’s Roll of Honour was unveiled, containing the names of 1319 brave souls from the Pontypridd area who will never be forgotten. It included those who died in World Wars I and II, in the Falklands and in the line of duty in Palestine, Korea and the Suez.
Cllr Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Armed Forces Champion, said:
“We remain grateful for the support our communities give us on Remembrance Sunday and invite them to join us for this event in the park on November 13.
“A wide range of volunteers will be joining the parade as a mark of respect and will also join us, and all visitors to the event, in a two-minute silence and prayers at the War Memorial.
“While it is a time to be solemn and reflect, Remembrance Sunday is also a chance for us to come together and support each other."
Pontypridd Remembrance Sunday Parade and Service takes place in the park from 10.35am.
