Rhondda Cynon Taf Council has launched a new Veteran Advice Line to provide dedicated support to veterans and members of the Armed Forces community across the County Borough.
The new advice line is now live and can be accessed by calling 01443 425 020, Monday to Friday from 8:30am to 5:00pm. Calls will initially be answered by the Council’s Contact Centre before being directed to the most appropriate support.
Alongside the telephone line, a 24/7 online referral form is also available, allowing veterans or someone supporting them to request help at any time: Veteran Advice Service | Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council.
Since the Veteran Advice Service was first introduced in 2019, the Council has continued to build on the support available locally. The launch of this new advice line is the next step in that work, making it easier for veterans to access advice, information and support when they need it.
The service aims to ensure that veterans can access information and support across a range of areas, including housing, employment, education, Adult Social Care and referrals to other organisations where specialist help may be required.
While the line is primarily for veterans, it is also open to the wider Armed Forces Community in line with the Armed Forces Covenant. This includes serving personnel, reservists and their family members, including bereaved families.
This initiative is part of the Council’s continued commitment to improving services for the Armed Forces Community. It is also being highlighted as part of the Council’s wider Transforming RCT campaign, which showcases how services, facilities and support are being improved for residents across Rhondda Cynon Taf. The new advice line represents a practical improvement that will make it easier for veterans, serving personnel, reservists and their families to access tailored support.
Councillor Maureen Webber BEM, Deputy Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Armed Forces Champion, said: “Rhondda Cynon Taf Council is proud to support our veterans and the wider Armed Forces Community, and this new advice line will make it easier for people to access the help and guidance they need.
“We know that finding the right support can sometimes feel difficult, so having one clear point of contact is an important step forward. Whether someone needs advice from the Council or support from another organisation, the Veteran Advice Line will help ensure they are directed to the right place.
“As a Council, we remain committed to upholding the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant and ensuring that those who have served, and their families, are treated fairly and do not face disadvantage when accessing local services.”
Rhondda Cynon Taf is home to more than 7,500 Armed Forces veterans. The Council was among the first Welsh local authorities to sign the Armed Forces Covenant in 2012, reaffirming its commitment in 2018 – symbolising mutual respect between the civilian and Armed Forces communities.
In recognition of its support, the Council received the Ministry of Defence’s Employer Recognition Scheme Gold Award in 2017, retaining the accolade in October 2022 after the introduction of the Guaranteed Interview Scheme for Veterans and Reservists.
The Council’s new Veteran Advice line offers free, confidential support for veterans and their families. To speak to dedicated officers in strict confidence, call 01443 425 020 (Monday to Friday, 8.30am to 5pm), or use the online referral form to access support: Veteran Advice Service | Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council
