Primary schools also run leadership programmes to develop School Leaders to promote and deliver sport in their school
Further Education and Higher Education
Coleg Y Cymoedd have several sports courses running at Aberdare, Nantgarw and Ystrad Mynach. Sport students are offered opportunities to volunteer with Sport RCT to support festivals, competitions and events.
The University of South Wales campus in Pontypridd hosts many sports degree courses. Students complete school and community placements with Sport RCT as part of their Sport Placement and Work-Based learning modules in Years 2 and 3. Students complete a 40, 70 or 140 hour placement based at a school or community setting and help to deliver a range of programmes and projects.

Family
Family support and influence plays an important role in a child’s physical activity. During early childhood parents and other close family members can help to develop positive habits and attitudes towards sport or physical activity. Family support is crucial, whether it is encouraging physical activity through play at the beach or park – or enabling and funding their access to structured sport sessions. Some parents choose to volunteer at their child’s sports club, but all will play a role and show commitment just by getting their child to that club. Positive, healthy habits passed down from family members can ensure that a child has the skills, confidence and motivation to be active for life.
