Dan-Y-Mynydd

This dedicated extra care housing scheme will be delivered in spring 2026. It will deliver 60 extra care beds on the site of the former Dan-y-Mynydd Residential Care Home in partnership with Codi Group, along with many other modern facilities including a day centre provision.

The new four-storey building is being built off Bronwydd Avenue, and the wider development will also include a dining area, hair salon, activity room, day care centre and offices, plus an external car park for visitors to the accommodation.

This new accommodation in Porth will become the fourth extra care housing scheme in Rhondda Cynon Taf when it is delivered (after the existing Ty Heulog in Talbot Green, Maesyffynnon in Aberaman, and Cwrt yr Orsaf in Pontypridd). Residents will be offered 24/7 on-site support for their assessed needs, enabling them to live independently for as long as possible.

Extra care housing in Porth entering final stages of construction (March 2026)

Intelle Construction are delivering the main construction phase on behalf of the Council and Codi Group (formerly Linc Cymru). Intelle resumed site activity in 2024 following a pause, after the project’s original contractor entered administration.

Here’s an artist impression of the development’s external and communal areas:

The old care home buildings were demolished and planning permission for the extra care development was granted in 2021.

The development is due for completion during spring 2026. The images below show the progress on site during March 2026:
