Additional drainage schemes to begin at two locations in Pentre

The Council will begin further drainage improvement work at two locations in Pentre from Wednesday – using Welsh Government funding secured earlier this year to complete a series of schemes following Storm Dennis. 

Residents will notice additional works activity at Pentre Road and Volunteer Street from Wednesday, June 30. These schemes form part of the Council’s general improvements and small-scale maintenance work being undertaken throughout the village, to increase network resilience during heavy rainfall.

The additional scheme at Pentre Road will upgrade gully covers, install linear drainage at the top end of the road and install two large gully chambers. At Volunteer Street, the existing manhole at the northern end of the street will be reconfigured and upgraded to reduce loading of the pumping station.

The work at each location will be carried out by the Council’s contractor Peter Simmons Construction. The contractor does not require a road closure, but some traffic management and disruption to residential parking may be needed. The work is scheduled to take approximately three weeks in total.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council and Cabinet Member with responsibility for Highways and Transportation, said: “I’m pleased that these additional drainage schemes at Pentre Road and Volunteer Street in Pentre will begin on Wednesday, using important funding which was secured by the Council from Welsh Government in April 2021.

“It is important to note that these works are in addition to the main, ongoing works to improve the Pentre Road culvert following Storm Dennis – which continue to progress well on site. Over the next three weeks, the Council will begin to deliver further gully enhancements at Pentre Road and manhole upgrades at Volunteer Street – while work at a third location using this additional funding, at Pleasant Street, is currently in development.
