March 23 - National Day of Reflection

Yellow Heart

Residents are encouraged to participate in remembering the many lives lost locally to Coronavirus since the start of the first National Lockdown on March 23, 2020.

Key number of key landmarks include the Parc Dare and Coliseum Theatres will be illuminated on the evening of the 23rd to pay-respect of loved ones and individuals lost to Covid-19 over the last twelve months.

County Borough Councillor Maureen Webber, Deputy Leader of the Council said: “The Council is planning to light-up a number of key landmark buildings across Rhondda Cynon Taf to commemorate the first national lock-down on March 23, 2020, and the many lives lost in Rhondda Cynon Taf over the last twelve months as consequence of the virus.

“Through our social media channels the Council will be encouraging residents to mark this anniversary in their own personal way, maybe by lighting a candle or displaying a poster, to remember loved ones or to pay respect to those individuals who have sadly lost their lives, which nationally acknowledge the very personal cost of the last twelve months.

“We talk daily about the impact of Covid, through numbers and statistics, but behind these figures lies a stark personal impact which hopefully now and into the future we can collectively acknowledge on the 23rd March.

“The Council is aware that a number of initiatives, which aim to symbolise the sympathy of communities, are currently being planned across Rhondda Cynon Taf, including individual activities by our Community Councils; As a Council we are keen to support or assist any plans residents may have to ensure we all mark this day in a meaningful way.”
