Over 80,000 Visitors To Lido Ponty In 2021!

Over 80,000 people have so far visited the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, in 2021 – making this the second busiest year at the much-loved facility since it reopened in 2015, despite the public health restrictions which have remained in place to limit the spread of COVID-19.

Following the incredible demand for places, the Council last month announced that the Lido’s summer season would be extended until Sunday, October 3rd in order to give as many people as possible the chance to enjoy using the facility.  The extension of the season commenced on Monday, 6th September, and public sessions have been extended as follows:

The two early morning sessions have remained at 6:30am to 7:30am and 7:45am to 8:45am, with two afternoon sessions continuing Monday to Friday, 4:00pm to 5:00pm and 5:30pm to 6:30pm.

Two additional sessions have been added at 9.30am to 10.30am and 2pm to 3pm. These new sessions take place every weekday and enable customers to use the main and activity pools for casual and lane swimming and also the baby splash pool with fountain for children who are not currently in school.

The weekend sessions have remained as normal, with the two early morning sessions followed by seven fun activity sessions commencing at 9:00am.

The restrictions on the number of spaces per day will remain in the interests of public safety.

Councillor Andrew Morgan, Leader of Rhondda Cynon Taf Council, said: “It’s fantastic to see so many people using the National Lido of Wales, Lido Ponty, with over 80,000 visitors going through the gates in 2021 – making this the second busiest season since 2015, behind only 2019.

“Despite suffering extensive damage during the devastating flooding of Storm Dennis and then the limitations on the number of places available due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the figures speak for themselves and demonstrate just how popular the Lido is with both residents and visitors to our County Borough.

“Last month, the Council announced that the Lido would extend its summer season to October 3rd in recognition of the demand for places and to provide as many people as possible with the opportunity to book a place and make use of the fantastic facilities on offer.”
